On the hunt

I am officially in the market for a new car. A BIGGER car. Right now I am driving a Nissan Altima. It really has been a great car for me. Its roomy enough, pretty, black, good mileage, etc. However, now it feels like this:

I have come to the conclusion that you can't have a regular old car when hauling around toddler twins. And this is in addition to my job, which in fundraising and sales. So, let's add a quite few boxes of stuff in the trunk. So, then add two toddlers, two gigantic car seats, a big diaper bag, stroller, work stuff, and  I am lucky I can get in the car.

This leads me to the fact that I simply MUST have more room. However, it also must get really good mileage (I put 30000-40000 a year on my car with work traveling). I also don't want to spend a ton of money, because I do put so many miles on it that it doesn't help the resale value at all.

Here is what I am considering so far. I really like the mini-SUVs or crossovers. They are much more roomy (not SUV roomy, but WAY better than my Altima), and get decent mileage. If you have any comments or own one, let me know! Or, if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears!

The Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass

Probably my least favorite as far as looks go - but the mileage is superb, and the price is decent

The Honda CRV

Of course, this one is probably my best bet. Good mileage, pretty, great reviews. But pretty pricey, I know, and I do adore Hondas.

Ford Escape

I keep coming back to this one. It just seems like a good average car. Good mileage, looks ok, and the price is ok. Everything is just OK with this car.

Hmmm, so I guess I am officially looking. And honestly, this sucks.

Ya know what else sucks? Not being at the top of this list! PLEASE vote! It just takes 2 clicks!!

Your Average Day with 17 month old twins...

Yes, I know I post their schedules during my monthly Baby Updates posts, but I thought I would give you a  glimeps on what our kinds/sort of typical day is like here at the Baby Stribling household*:

*I do work, so this is a schedule when I am home with them or during the weekends. during the week my nanny does this same type of schedule

6:30-7am: Babies are a stirring! It depends, actually. The birds outside their window are SO LOUD, and if the weather is beautiful, the birds get after it pretty early, which usually wakes up a baby. And once one wakes up, the other is not far behind (they are still sharing a room)

7:00 - I go down and get a large sippy cup of milk for them and take it back upstairs

7:15 - we open the door to a plethora of baby giggles, smiles, and "Mama", "Dadas". Honestly, this might be my favorite past of the day. They are SO HAPPY to see us. Next is stripping them down and changing their diapers (which are usually disgusting. I don't know why, but they continue to do nastiness in the middle of the night!) Then they both sit down in daddy's lap in the rock and drink their milk while I turn on the Today show in their room. Then I proceed to get their outfits ready for the day.

7:30-8am: we change into our day's outfits, and then its book time. They are SO Excited to get down from Jake's lap so they can go head first into books. Then we read for a while before going downstairs.

8am-8:30: I'll let them run around for a few minutes while I get breakfast ready for them. It can consist of oatmeal (can someone please come tech my kids how to use a spoon? I just simply can't do it. I give up, lol), waffles, eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt, etc, etc

8:30-9: I turn on the Toddler Tunes station on Comcast Music and we read more books and/or dance party fun while listening to some tunes.

9-9:30 - they will go upstairs with me while I change clothes and get ready. (a shower for me might not be until naptime, lol)

9:30 : I try to get out of the house with them for a bit, and this in and of itself is an adventure with toddler twins. We might go to Target, to the grocery, to the park, to the pool, to one of our indoor play places, or to the zoo.

11:00 - eat some lunch. This usually isn't a huge meal, some chicken or fish, avocado, cheese, cut up veggies, fruit, or cheese sandwich and goldfish, etc.

11:30/12 (depending on what time we get back home) - Blissful nap time - woohoo!! They have been sleeping a good 2.5 - 3 hours since we went down to one nap. I will typically do a quick workout, shower, clean up the kitchen, living room, (it already looks like a tornado has been through there), play on the internet, check email, etc.

2:30 - up and ready to go! We change diapers again and head downstairs. They they play in the playroom for a little while, or learn a project (right now we are working on coloring). They drink more milk and I get their lunch #2 ready.

3:00 - lunch #2 is a little more food than lunch #1, I may give them a pasta of some sort with veggies.

3:30-4:30 - play some more in the playroom. if I am working I get home at 3:30, so I usually will play with them for an hour or so in the playroom and do "free play". So, I usually just do the same when I am home.

4:30 - 6:30 - If we haven't gone anywhere that morning, we may go out and run a couple of errands, or do the same life as above. or, we may watch a Baby Einstein or Yo Gabba Gabba together, go for a Wagon Ride around the neighborhood, work with some flashcards or work on our colors, letters, and shapes, etc. (this is vice/versa in the mornings if we go out in the afternoon) We also drink more milk and have a snack if they want it. Jake usually gets home aroun6, so he usually plays with them while I get our dinner started

6:30 - dinner time! I still don't eat dinner with the babies. We have tried, but its just too much trouble right now, and this just works for us better. I know we probably should, but we don't, lol. Plus, its nice once we put the babies down to have dinner just Jake and I and watch TV. Kind of like our own little "date night" every night.

7:00 - bath time! The babies love this! Jake bathes them while I go back downstairs and do something else with dinner and clean up their trays, re-clean the living room, and such. Then I go back upstairs and dry off Jules and get her ready for bed while Jake finishes Josh, then do the same with Josh. More books are read! (I have so many in our house, its really embarrassing. I have a basket of books in every room in my house)

7:30 - night, night babies! I put them to bed while Jake reads them a story. Then he comes downstairs and we eat dinner, watch TV, etc. Then eventually bedtime for us!

So, there you have it. A glimpse into our daily life!

I have become that mom

While hanging out with friends this past weekend, one asked my how old the babes were.

I replied, "17 months".

Them, "Ha, ha. Why don't you just say a year and half?"

Me (all panicky): "Because they're NOT a year and a half!!!!

I realized I had become that mom. I am now that person that used to annoy me by aging babies in months, well past their year birthday. (I honestly used to say the exact same thing to mothers) Some even do it well past their second birthday, heck some even later than that.

I have come to realize that, in my opinion, it keeps them small. You measure your infant's age in months. And I think its our way of keeping them small, tiny, and un-growupable. So, I will continue to reply to questions about their age in months as long as I can. Or at least until it becomes weird. Maybe by, say, 54 months :)

Our Favorite Things - 16 Months

Right now we love to play. We love to climb, we love to run, we love to just "play"! There are no certain 'toys' that are our "favorites". We love them all, then we throw them down and play. Then we pick them up again, and carry them around, then we play some more. Gymboree (above) is our favorite place ever, because we can just run around like crazy kids and climb on absolutely everything with little monkeys.

We use our little table that I DIY painted ALL THE TIME. ( and yes, in case you are wondering, Jules is in the blue chair, and Josh is in the pink, lol) It is the perfect place to read books, please with puzzles, and eat crayons (yeah, still not mastered that coloring skill yet) It was so weird. All of a sudden they were in the chairs - just like that. One day they were too small to climb up in them ,and now they can sit in them like little kids. Its crazy!

Love, love, LOVE books. It is their most favorite thing to do. They go to them the moment they get down from their cribs in the morning, all day, and the last thing they do at night. favorites right now are anything Pooh, anything Sesame Street, anything with bright colors and shapes, and anything with a "lift-the-flap".

Favorite foods are blueberries, cheese, yogurt, grapes, mandarin oranges, goldfish (not Annie's organic, they seem to prefer the goldfish), avocado, beans, and pasta. They just haven't developed a liking yet for veggies, It seems all that time slaving in the kitchen to make all their baby food to avoid this happening just didn't work.

They LOVE music and love to clap, dance, and even sing - yes sing! (I must post a video soon because its precious). The shows they love must be 75% music and 25% talking, or they are bored. Their favorite show is still Ya Gabba Gabba, but have recently taken a liking to ...wait for it....Barney.

Jules loves her sunglasses. Josh does not.

Poor Gus. For some reason he just lets the kids do whatever with him. Zelly is never in pictures because I still think she refuses to acknowledge that we have to small people living in the house. The babes love Gus though!

Kitchen time is still our favorite. They love getting out the mixing bowls and spoon and trying to win the award for the loudest kids on the planet.

Now that its summertime, the babes LOVE the pool. Josh had a hard time at first with it, which was surprising because he is such the little water bug (we think because it was cold), but now they absolutely love it.

We still love bathtime! Favorite part of our day!!

And finally, we love our wagon. If you haven't bought one yet, I highly recommend one. They love it so much more than their stroller. (unfortunately for mall trips, zoo trips, etc) Alas, I don't have a picture of this due to stupid computer. So, I posted one of them outside, because they also love being outside!

Steppin' Out Saturdays

Good News - Steppin Out Saturdays is back! Bad News...computer is still broken. Place #2 could still not fix it. They can, however, send it off to some place that strip the hard drive down completely and try and remove everything off of it. More bad news? It can cost anywhere between $100-$600. Seriously???? AAARRRGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! But, I guess you have to do it, right??

Anyway, I am able to at least upload pics from my camera to Picasa. So, thats good I suppose. Anyway, our Saturday was so much fun!! We did not go to our normal Gymboree class. Josh either has some allergy stuff going on, or he has developed a cold. So, either way, I didn't want him around a bunch of other kids, especially still he immediately puts everything in his mouth. Me thinks those peeps there might not appreciate that.

So, Saturday morning was our subdivision's neighborhood yard sale. I usually deplore yard sales (especially hosting my own, which is a story in and of itself). However, since we were home with the babes, my and my mother-in-law decided to scout them out while toting the babes around in their wagon. I got a whole Mr. Potato Head set for $2, and LOTS of sets of flash cards for $1! Score! And unfortunately, all this did is make my yearn for the consignment sales to start back up. Lucky for me, the fall ones start happening in July - woohoo!!

After that, Jake, moi, the babes, and my in laws went to Nashville Farmer's Market downtown. It was too much fun! I have never been myself. I have actually ran through it twice, though, during the Oktoberfest 5K in October, lol. Anyway, it was fun. We had lunch and shopped around for some veggies and fruits. It is a HUGE farmers market, and even has a whole flea market division. Then we got back, and they babes went down for a nap. I then went to a girlfriends " birthday party" at a local bowling lane. (who says bowling and drinking beer in the middle of Saturday isn't fun?) Then Jake and I grilled out Saturday night. What a fun day!!
